Samsung Exynos 2200 SoC Could Bring Ray Tracing feature, thanks to AMD GPU

AMD announced the introduction of RDNA 2 graphics technology on next-generation Samsung Exynos SoCs at Computex 2021 in June. And, as previously reported, the first AMD-powered chipset will be the Exynos 2200.

Geekbench has revealed a Samsung Galaxy S22+ powered by Exynos 2200. Though the AMD GPUs on the new Exynos SoC are rumored to support ray shading as well as ray tracing, Samsung has just confirmed that they are working on introducing ray tracing technology to the new Exynos GPUs. Samsung verified this in a Weibo post, which was quickly deleted.
the upcoming flagship chip from the Korean tech giant will use AMD GPU, which makes it more powerful than its predecessors. Notably, the Exynos 2200 will be the first platform in this segment with an AMD graphics core based on the RDNA 2 architecture.

Ray tracing simulates the physical behavior of light and it is based on the calculation of the position of light and the area of reflection. Samsung has also mentioned mobile gaming so it is possible that we may very soon look at games that support ray tracing on modern smartphones.

Exynos 2200 that appeared recently on Geekbench features an octa-core CPU with a prime CPU core clocked at 2.59GHz, three high-performance CPU cores clocked at 2.5GHz, and four power-efficient CPU cores clocked at 1.73GHz. Though it was speculated that Exynos 2200 could have Cortex-X2 CPU, Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 CPU cores based on the ARM v9 architecture, the benchmark listing shows ARM v8 CPU cores. The chipset comes with an integrated 5G modem and AMD RDNA2-based Mobile Radeon GPU.

As of now, it is unclear why the identical chipset produces such diametrically opposed findings, but a source claims that it could be due to the Galaxy S22+ being in power-saving mode during the test.
Whatever the reason, it is now verified that Samsung and AMD are working
closely together to bring ray tracing to mobile devices, and flagship smartphones
may soon offer the same to serious mobile gamers!
