Although the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 offers some improvements over its predecessor, it is not the ‘genuine’ Dimensity 1000 replacement. That is expected in the form of the MediaTek Dimensity 2000 in late 2021 or early 2022.
The forthcoming Dimensity 2000 processor series is based on TSMC’s latest 4nm manufacturing node. It will also include the latest ARM V9 architecture and the Cortex X2 core. Mediatek Dimensity 2000 highest clock speed will be – 3.0GHz.
According to prior sources, the new SoC’s performance would be comparable to the next flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 898/895 mobile chip, which is also expected to launch around the same time.
A report suggests that the Dimensity 2000 is 25% more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 898. Furthermore, the report adds that the Dimensity 2000 could be as fast as the Snapdragon 898 in terms of raw performance.
Last Month, MediaTek launched two new Dimensity 5G chipsets — Dimensity 920 and Dimensity 810 — for smartphone makers to provide boosted performance and smarter displays to their customers. Smartphones featuring the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 2000 series of processors are likely to hit the market by early 2022.
MediaTek chipsets, especially high-end ones, have historically lagged behind Qualcomm hardware by one generation. For the first time in many years, MediaTek has a genuine chance to compete with Qualcomm’s top offerings, at least in terms of CPU performance. The Dimensity 2000 may even give the Exynos 2200 a run for its money, but due to the latter’s mRDNA2 GPU, it will almost surely fall short in gaming performance.
